I’ll admit, when I heard about the pastor closing a prayer with “Amen” and “Awomen” before the Congressional Session began, I thought it was a joke. I looked up the video just to watch it myself to hear the prayer and how others in the congress would react. To my surprise, there were crickets. While it is easy to laugh at all the memes and crack jokes (which I admit I have) because of the foolishness of what took place, this should be a wake up to the church as whole. Here are three things we as the church need to recognize and be prepared for as the culture continues to shift.
1.) Standing for the Word of God is Going To Get Tougher:
I hate to be that guy, but before things get any easier, they are going to get worse. Now I’m not making this prediction based off a “gut feeling”, I’m basing this off what the Word of God has to say. I know some of you would rather have your ears tickled and hear “peace peace”, but too many scripture verses predict that living for the gospel of Jesus Christ will become difficult as we get closer and closer to Jesus’ return.
“You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that.!” -2nd Timothy 3:1-6 NLT
“Jesus told them (emphasis added), “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming “I am the Messiah.” They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come. “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And the Good News about the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.” -Matthew 24:4-14 NLT
I love the encouraging words that Jesus has towards the end “the one who endures to the end will be saved.” My hope and prayer is that we who call ourselves disciples for the Lord Jesus Christ will endure to the end.
2.) Teaching The “Basics” of the Gospel Is A Must:
The reason why we need to teach the “basics” of the gospel is because those who have been called to lead and teach the gospel can no longer assume their audience knows the gospel. If Satan is using the culture to deconstruct the word “amen”, what makes us think he won’t try to get a whole generation to not know the true gospel?
With a majority of my generation (millennials) being “nones”, meaning they don’t want anything to do with God or religion, the next generation (Gen-Z), could have no clue who God is or what the truth of the gospel is! If you think I’m exaggerating my point, I would encourage you to read Numbers chapter 2. Because one generation didn’t own up to their responsibility to teach about God, many generations suffered afterwards. We must make sure that we are teaching the whole character and nature of God and our need for the Savior.
3.) While The Battle Rages, The War Is Won:
No matter how tough the battle gets, we need to remember that the war of sin and death was won by Jesus Christ on the cross. Because of sin, and Satan’s scheme to steal, kill, and destroy, Satan will do everything he can to make things unbearable for those who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ. Why you may ask? Because Satan knows that Jesus Christ is coming back to restore what is broken! Let the words from Revelation 19 give peace and confidence in what Jesus will do;
“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.” And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.”-Revelation 19:11-21
To my brothers and sister in church, put your whole armor of God on and be prepared for the spiritual battle that is upon us. Stand strong, fight the good fight, and as Jesus said, “let us endure to the very end.” We were created for a time such as this.

Book of the Month
This month’s book of the month is close to my heart as my good friend Sarah Zoe Kainos released her first published book “Voice of the Victorious”. If you are someone who has dealt with severe trauma or work with people with severe trauma, this book is a must read! Check below for more information about the book!
In this, her first published work, she shares her long sojourn from the miry pit of a childhood replete with complex trauma and evil~ to the healing heights of the life giving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The journey is heart wrenching and filled with many a valley. The voices we experience along life’s way truly do have profound effects on us. That will be clear throughout this memoir.
